I can relate. I was living a life I thought meant success. There aren't many more environments more focussed on results than within Olympic sport. Working with the best taught me an incredible amount about what the human body was capable of. And what teams of people can accomplish when true collaboration is achieved.
But at the heart of me remained a gap in myself.
Lost in unknown anxiety, failed relationships and a searching for fulfilment in the external world. I was lost spiritually after dedicating so much of my energy into just the physical realms of life.
This gap become unavoidably apparent when I gave end of life care to my mother. The moment that changed everything for me. Deep grief, big questions of life and a paradigm of life that was about to be exploded.
This is where my path to personal mastery began. One of the biggest realisations along this journey so far, has been that the key elements that underpin extraordinary feats are actually very ordinary qualities, which we can learn to open up life in profound ways:
Embodying the Ordinary leads to the Extraordinary
Action sport athletes push the boundaries of what’s possible, therefore to be witness to them discussing fear, panic and how they deal with it is for me, liberating.
If they survive without big crashes then that’s a good day. Winning matters of course, but the real adversary is fear. They have a profound respect and connection for their environment and they need to heed the warning signs. Therefore they have to be in-tune with themselves and with nature — otherwise they can pay the highest price with their lives.
But what does being in-tune really mean?
Mindset suggests that there is only a psychological approach to achieving peak performance. Our mental constructs and views are a crucial part to how we experience our world. And yet the human condition is so much more expansive than what we perceive with our mind.
When we really take a moment and sharpen our awareness on our inner world, we realise just how much noise is going on within our head. It’s relentless, and when left unattended becomes a freight train of anxiety and clutter that significantly limits the quality of our physical and mental ability.
Without developing awareness, it’s almost guaranteed that we will take our thoughts and emotions as our genuine state in the moment without question. We are at the mercy of them because we rely on them to drive our actions.
But it doesn’t have to be like this...

Our Life's Work
While everyone and their brother is piling into the online training and workshop/retreat space these days, training ordinary humans to do extraordinary things is something we’ve been dedicated to for the past twenty years. It’s who we are, and what we’re committed to. Designing and delivering dynamic learning experiences.
From our own graduate studies in human performance to working with the top scientists in the world on peak performance –– we source from rigorous, skeptical, evidence based scholarship. We also love lineages, indigenous culture, mythology and footnotes (and if you’re venturing into this domain, you should too!).
It comes from deep painful experiences, personal anguish, burying parents and dearest friends, now a family life honestly lived, raising kids, all the while keeping magic and mystery alive as best as we can.
In this coaching program you will playfully develop abilities to help navigate our uncertain times, communicate across opposing divides, and authentically co-create a new world with a sense of joy.
The path of Personal Mastery is really about your inner work and outer action, in service of a flourishing world. Living and working purposefully towards a vision, in alignment with your values and in a state of constant learning about yourself and the reality in which you exist.
Why this, why now?
We believe that all of us are needed at our best right now, more than ever before. At the heart of the Olympic sport environment is the focus of seeking to unlock limitations to be the best in a sporting arena. That's important if you want to be a world champion.
But since leaving sport it's left us feeling how can the rest of us unlock our limitations to live our fullest and bravest expression. To us "best" doesn't mean better than anyone. It means to show up in our lives as authentically and open hearted as possible to co-create a new world.
The growing crises of the modern age all have a common cause - our way of thinking and being in the world is out of date. This course is designed to teach you skills, offer new perspectives and new ways of being.
Witnessing the truly extraordinary in others and being personally stripped bare has revealed a profound truth to me. When talking about being our best, there’s a natural tendency to project towards someone that embodies those qualities. This highlights the idea that when seeking our best, one is in a place of lack. This course will show you that you already have everything you need to achieve the extraordinary - whether that’s in sport, in business or in life.
It will be made obvious to you that you don’t need more of anything. It’s in fact the idea that all you need is to reconnect yourself back to your innate raw materials. These raw materials are the very ordinary qualities that underpin extraordinary human achievements, which you can utilise to live the life you want.
Said even more plainly, it will show you how to revitalise your body, boost your creativity, rekindle your relationships, and answer once and for all the questions of why we are here and what do we do now?
Who is this for?
Personal Mastery is a deeply transformative and immersive experience but it’s not a good fit for everyone. I have a very particular style of coaching and want to make sure you’re set up for success right from day one. Personal Mastery is for you if:

How it works
Over the course of 8 weeks, you will be part of weekly group coaching sessions to learn how to really apply the principles into your life.
In between sessions, you’ll receive weekly video modules, get supplemental tools, resources, tips and exercises to help accelerate the work.
The modules serve as our “roadmap” and help us stay focused and on track with our coaching.
The entire program is structured week-by-week on an intuitive platform, so you never feel lost as we work together.

Most personal development trainings don't work.
Not anymore, at least. They're either made up of "Grinders" or "Dreamers".
The "Grinders" are stuck in the Skinner-Behaviorism mindset. This is the idea that changing our behaviors (and ultimately our lives) is a matter of inputs and outputs. If you focus on constantly grinding it out, only then can you achieve... (think hustle-culture).
You'll get short term results but nothing tends to stick over the long term.
Then you have the "Dreamers". They're stuck in the power of positive thinking, "The Secret," and affirmations. If you change your attitudes and beliefs... then everything in your physical life will change too.
This perspective is often ungrounded in technical specifics.
You'll have to suspend judgement, and ignore (healthy) skepticism.
Either of these binary approaches doesn't cut it. And the world is changing too rapidly right now for that to be enough.

Richard is a coach, speaker and the co-founder of The Conscious Life Collective, dedicated to helping people become who they are meant to be.
